Before They Grow Up: The Urgent Need for Meaningful Family Journeys

In the blink of an eye, childhood becomes a memory, and those precious moments with your growing children slip like sand through your fingers. Every second is a chance to strengthen bonds that will endure long after they've flown the nest. Imagine a journey where laughter fills the air, where every shared adventure brings you closer, creating a memories that will be cherished and recounted for generations. This is your moment.

From one parent to another, I understand you. You’ve devoted your life to your children, who are your everything. Your sacrifices have ensured they have everything they could ever want or need. Yet, in this chaotic, distraction-filled world, there’s a lingering wish to be closer to your kids, to spend more time with them, especially as they stand on the brink of venturing out on their own paths.

Enter Legacy Journeys, a company created to forge those enduring memories and moments of connection. I’m Monica, the founder. Let me share a recent trip to Japan with my kids, aged 18 and 15. Like many of you, we’ve travelled extensively, but this trip was different. Was this our last family holiday as a unit of four? With this in mind, our kids played a major role in planning the details of this trip. That’s why I found myself spending half a day watching a 6-story moving robot or Gundam (listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest in the world). As boring as it was, I loved every moment…..due to the pure joy on my kid’s faces.

I won’t lie, the first few days were difficult to adjust too. Half my brain was still in work mode thinking of clients, budgets etc. It’s a common experience, I’m sure you can relate. But by day three, I was fully immersed in the experience with my kids, absorbing the culture, navigating public transport in a foreign language, and engaging with locals. Everything I had hoped for. An unexpected bonus was watching my children connect with each other. They love each other, of course, but they don’t always spend time together, unlike my sister and I did a generation ago. But perhaps that’s just a generational difference. On this trip, however, it was heartwarming to see them converse, laugh, and even scheme together.

So, my advice to you? Start planning your next trip today. You can’t afford not to. Your kids will be grateful, you’ll earn the title of “best parents ever,” and you’ll satisfy your need to spend more quality time with them. If you’re lucky enough to have younger teenagers, you’re at an advantage with more opportunities ahead. I admit, I’m a bit envious. For those fortunate enough, we offer a 5-year planning service to ensure you make the most of these precious years.

So now you need to consider what legacy will your travels leave with your children?
